The prison escapee captured near Bredbo after two days on the run has had his case adjourned until the 10th of April, after fronting Goulburn Local Court today on charges of escaping custody and larceny.

He will be held in Goulburn Correctional Centre until that date.

Adam Bowhay absconded from a work release program in cooma earlier this week, and the larceny charges relate to items Bowhay allegedly stole from a local football club during his escape, including some tools and a backpack.

Bowhey was recaptured near Bredbo about 30 kilometres north of Cooma at 11.40am yesterday, after he was spotted by a member of the public.

The 34-year-old is serving a 23-year sentence for the murder of a Northern Rivers man in 1997, and had recently been refused parole after a recommendation by the serious offenders review council that he participate in more approved external leave before being reconsidered.

There's one week to go until Clean Up Australia Day, and National Parks are seeking more volunteers to help out with some areas of Kosciuszko.

Lookouts, walking tracks and the main range are to be addressed, as Parks Environmental Liaison Officer, David Woods, says that these areas can't afford to have any litter, no matter how small, spoil the natural environment.

He says that beyond being an eyesore, this litter can also have a detrimental impact upon the native flora and fauna.

Anyone interested in signing up and helping clean up some of the more remote locations in Kosziuszko National Park is being urged to get in touch with David on (02) 6450 5616, or through the Snowy Mountains Visitor Centre.

19 million dollars is being spent by the O'Farrell Government to help facilitate the introduction of recreational hunters into National Parks including Kosciuszko.

While much has been made of the objections that parks staff and visitors have to the scheme, Shadow Minister for Primary Industries, Steve Whan, says that Monaro farmers equally have reason to be angry.

Research indicates that NPWS pest control efforts are much more effective than those of recreational hunters, and mr whan says that this money could be redirected to support those official services.

He's certain that farmers would be in a much more secure position against the threat of pests.
