Medicare EFTPOS facilities intended to make life easier

Those in the Monaro are set to soon benefit from the introduction of new electronic medicare facilities.

Under the new system, Medicare reimbursements will be made by EFTPOS transaction, directly crediting a patient's bank card at a service centre.

Previously, direct bank deposits were the norm, along with the option for cash or cheque payments.

Under the new system cash will not be an option, however cheques will be available at a users request.

Minister for Human Services Senator Kim Carr says it's a move set to make life easier for those claiming in the future.
