Planning is underway to address damage recently made to nearly twenty hectares of Kosciuszko National Park.

A private contractor working on behalf of TransGrid sprayed herbicide along a 60 metre wide, 17 kilometer long stretch of powerlines.

The contractor was undertaking routine maintenance, but the method of spraying was not authorised.

It's not the first time that TransGrid has been involved in the destruction of national parks - they were fined $130,000 in 2001 for the clearing of trees in three parks, including Kosciuszko.

Representatives of TransGrid say that the contractor is currently suspended.
